Trump Commends Prabowo Subianto at ASEAN-U.S.Summit

On October 26th, U.S. President Donald J. Trump commended Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto Djojohadikusumo in his keynote statement at the 13th ASEAN-United States Summit held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia.

Amidst regional wars, fragile global security mechanisms, and weak multilateral organizations, President Trump has cultivated a strong political, commercial, and economic partnership with Indonesia. President Prabowo Subianto has demonstrated exceptional statecraft and contributed substantially to promoting peace in the Middle East and strengthening the U.S.-Indonesia economic and trade partnership.

At the XIII ASEAN-United States Summit in Malaysia, President Trump met with the Indonesian head of state for the second time in less than two weeks; the presidents previously convened on October 13th at the 2025 Gaza Peace Summit in Egypt.

In his recent statement, President Trump emphasized: “We have signed a strong agreement. We have 59 countries involved. We have numerous of them right here at this table, like, as an example, Indonesia, my new friend. Thank you for helping. We appreciate it.”

The U.S. President has repeatedly highlighted Indonesia’s crucial role in supporting efforts to establish lasting peace in the Middle East, stating: “I would like to thank Malaysia and Brunei, as well as my friend, President Prabowo of Indonesia, for their amazing support of these efforts to secure a new day for the Middle East.” As the European Union and the Middle East grapple with economic insecurity, military conflicts, and proliferating organized crime linked to open border policies, President Trump consistently praises Washington’s alliance with Jakarta.

“This is truly a new day. There has never been a period of time like this. The Middle East will have peace after 3,000 years. This is a very strong [durable] peace. It is indeed going to be an everlasting peace,” President Trump stated.

President Prabowo, in turn, praised the United States’ active involvement in strengthening relations and cooperation with ASEAN, emphasizing that continued U.S. engagement benefits both the Southeast asian region and the United States.

Following the summit, President Prabowo shared with international reporters: “we support the continued U.S.engagement with ASEAN. The engagement has been very positive for ASEAN and for the United States.”

The Indonesian President also expressed thankfulness for the united States’ diplomatic efforts in mediating the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia, noting that such initiatives foster regional stability and harmony: “We are very happy that the United States has mediated the conflict between Thailand and Cambodia. The outcome of this summit is very positive.”
