UAB Outlasts Jacksonville State in High-Scoring Slugfest

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Blazers defeated the Jacksonville State Gamecocks 16-11 in a high-scoring affair on Tuesday night, March 24, 2026. The game, which lasted three hours and 50 minutes, featured a combined 27 runs, 24 hits, 20 walks, and 17 pitchers.1 This marks the third time this season UAB has scored at least 15 runs.1

First Inning Fireworks

The game began with a flurry of offense, as nine runs were scored in the first inning alone. Jacksonville State jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs. The Gamecocks capitalized on a double, walk, single, and a wild pitch to plate their first two runs. Following a UAB pitching change and a sacrifice fly, Jacksonville State loaded the bases, and Ace Williamson hit a three-run home run, his second of the season, to extend their lead to 6-0.1

UAB responded with three runs in the bottom of the first, despite not recording a hit. The Blazers took advantage of four walks, including a bases-loaded walk, and RBIs from Brady Waugh and Andrew Hunt via a groundout and sacrifice fly, respectively, to cut the deficit to 6-3.1 John Paul Head added another run with a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 6-4.

Blazers Take Control

Jacksonville State added a run in the top of the third, but UAB surged ahead in the bottom half of the inning. Baylor Roberts tied the game with a bases-loaded double, scoring Alex Dupuy, Brady Waugh, and Max Price. Kevin Hall Jr. Followed with a single, driving in Roberts and giving UAB its first lead of the game at 8-7.1

The lead changed hands again in the fourth inning, with Jacksonville State regaining a 9-8 advantage on a double by Grayson Ashe and a subsequent RBI single by Trey King.1

UAB took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Max Price doubled to tie the game, and Baylor Roberts drove in Wesley Helms with a single to put the Blazers ahead 10-9. UAB added two more runs on Jacksonville State miscues, extending their lead to 12-9.1

Closing Strong

Roberts continued his strong performance in the sixth, driving in Helms on a sacrifice fly to increase UAB’s lead to 13-9.1 In the seventh, Wesley Helms and Max Price hit back-to-back home runs, pushing UAB’s lead to a game-high six runs.1

Jacksonville State attempted a rally in the eighth, scoring two runs, but UAB responded with four more in the bottom of the inning, highlighted by a single from Alex Dupuy with the bases loaded, to secure a 16-11 victory.1

Chase Ingram closed out the game, pitching the final two innings without allowing a run, earning UAB its 15th win of the season.1
