UCLA Football: Chesney Bolsters Receiving Corps with Six Transfer Additions
After a season where its offensive unit faced challenges, UCLA football has aggressively rebuilt its wide receiver room through the transfer portal, aiming for a more balanced and explosive attack under head coach Bob Chesney. Six new receivers have been added to prepare for redshirt sophomore quarterback Nico Iamaleava’s second season as the Bruins’ signal caller.
Aidan Mizell
Former Florida receiver Aidan Mizell brings elite speed to Westwood. A four-star recruit out of high school, Mizell appeared in 11 games and made three starts for the Gators in 2024, followed by 19 receptions for 177 yards and a touchdown in 2025. His track star speed and 6-foot-1 frame make him a dynamic threat, capable of creating separation and making contested catches. With the departure of Kwazi Gilmer to Nebraska, Mizell is expected to be a key target for Iamaleava in 2026.
Brian Rowe Jr.
Brian Rowe Jr., a transfer from South Carolina, adds SEC experience to the Bruins’ receiving corps. The former four-star recruit appeared in 11 contests for the Gamecocks in 2025, logging 19 receptions for 149 yards and one touchdown. Rowe’s versatility as a route runner and pass catcher from various alignments should spot increased playing time at UCLA.
Leland Smith
Standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 215 pounds, Leland Smith joins UCLA after a productive season at San Jose State. In 2025, Smith recorded 43 receptions for 688 yards and three touchdowns, earning All-Mountain West Honorable Mention. His physicality and ability to win contested catches, particularly in the red zone, will provide a valuable asset for Iamaleava and offensive coordinator Dean Kennedy.
Landon Ellis
Landon Ellis, another addition from Chesney’s former team at James Madison, led the Dukes in receiving yards in 2025. Averaging 17.3 yards per reception with five touchdowns, Ellis brings proven production and scheme familiarity to the Bruins. His well-refined route running and experience should allow him to contribute significantly in 2026.
Marcus Harris
Marcus Harris returns to Southern California after one season at Washington. The former three-star recruit out of Mater Dei High School redshirted his first collegiate season with the Huskies. Harris possesses the size and athleticism to develop into an effective pass catcher under the guidance of wide receivers coach Colin Lockett.
Semaj Morgan
Semaj Morgan transfers to UCLA from Michigan with over 30 Big Ten game appearances under his belt. While totaling 566 career receiving yards for the Wolverines, Morgan was recognized for his explosiveness on special teams, earning All-Big Ten honors twice as a return specialist. His sure hands, ability to win in contested situations and dynamic yard-after-catch ability will be valuable assets for the Bruins in 2026.
