Brando Peričić: From Adelaide to the UFC, Representing Croatia on the Global Stage

Heavyweight contender Brando Peričić is rapidly making a name for himself in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), fueled by a resilient spirit and unwavering pride in his Croatian heritage. After a challenging journey that nearly led him to quit mixed martial arts (MMA), Peričić has found success within the Octagon, with aspirations of challenging for a championship title.

A Late Start and a Croatian Identity

Born in Adelaide, Australia, the 31-year-vintage Peričić proudly represents Croatia in his professional fighting career. He moved to Latest Zealand three years ago to train at City Kickboxing, the renowned gym that produced former two-time middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Peričić’s dedication to his roots is evident in his desire to compete and represent his fans worldwide.

“I debuted in Australia, and now I get to debut in Europe,” Peričić said. “I’ve got all my Croatia fans around the world that support me, so very proud, super grateful, so I want to put on a great performance for them, and I appear forward to walking out to the Croatian flag and just representing.”

Overcoming Adversity and a Quick Rise

Peričić’s path to the UFC wasn’t without obstacles. He faced numerous fight cancellations over the past five years, struggling to secure consistent bookings and make ends meet. This led him to consider leaving MMA altogether. However, an invitation from Israel Adesanya to train together during Adesanya’s preparation for a rematch against Alex Pereira revitalized his career.

This training stint at City Kickboxing provided Peričić with a renewed sense of purpose and a supportive environment. He subsequently made his debut in Perth, Australia, in September 2025, securing a victory in under two minutes.

Future Aspirations and Potential Matchups

With a 100 percent finishing rate, Peričić is focused on continuous improvement and achieving his ultimate goal: becoming a UFC champion. He is eager to return to the Octagon and build on his early success.

Peričić has his sights set on a future matchup with Alex Pereira. “It’s funny because in Miami, I crossed paths with Pereira so many times and we obviously stared at each other, and I just thought to myself, ‘I’m going to fight this guy one day. I can feel it,’” Peričić said. “Whether I go down to light heavyweight or he comes up the heavyweight, I reckon is going to happen.”

Expanding Croatian Representation in the UFC

Peričić joins a growing contingent of Croatian fighters in the UFC, including Ante Delija and Ivan Erslan. There is as well potential for Ðani Barbir to join the ranks, further solidifying Croatia’s presence in the world’s premier MMA organization. With Stipe Miočić’s recent retirement, these athletes represent the next wave of Croatian MMA talent.

As of February 28, 2026, the UFC roster includes fighters from 76 countries.
