Kenya Hosts Africa Aquatics Zone III Championships and Prepares for Global Competitions
Kenya is solidifying its position as a key hub for aquatic sports in Africa, recently hosting the Africa Aquatics Zone III Championships and preparing to participate in several major international events in 2026.
Africa Aquatics Zone III Championships
The 10th Africa Aquatics Zone III Swimming Championship took place from October 16-19, 2025, at the Kasarani Aquatic Stadium in Nairobi. The event drew participants from over 15 African nations, including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Somalia, Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Nigeria Citizen Digital. Kenya Aquatics unveiled a record-breaking squad of 73 Masters swimmers for the competition Citizen Digital.
The championships featured a diverse range of competitors, including juniors, seniors, and Masters swimmers (aged 25 and above) Citizen Digital. Notably, 74-year-old Esther Kariuki competed, highlighting the growing inclusivity of swimming in Kenya Citizen Digital.

Africa Aquatics has several major events planned for 2026, including:
- South African National Swimming Championships: Gqeberha, South Africa, April 14, 2026 Africa Aquatics.
- Africa Aquatics African Swimming Championships: Accra, Ghana, May 5, 2026 Africa Aquatics.
New Initiatives by Africa Aquatics
Africa Aquatics recently launched the Africa Open Water Cup, with its inaugural event hosted on Soro Island in Guinea Conakry Africa Aquatics. This new championship aims to promote open water swimming and showcase African talent on an international stage Africa Aquatics.
South Africa’s Success at the African Youth Games
The 4th African Youth Games, concluded on December 16, 2025, in Luanda, Angola, saw South Africa achieve significant success in swimming Africa Aquatics. The event marked a high point for continental swimming Africa Aquatics.
Kenya’s Return to Hosting
After a period without hosting major swimming events, Kenya is once again actively involved in the Africa Aquatics calendar, as evidenced by the successful Zone III Championships Africa Aquatics.
