Ukraine Weather Forecast: Cold Snap to Ease, Snow Returns

Ukraine is bracing for a continuation of cold weather, but with a shift in conditions expected in the coming days. While significant frosts will persist through the weekend, a gradual warming trend is anticipated next week, bringing with it a return of snowfall in some regions.

Current Conditions and Forecast

As of February 16, 2026, much of Ukraine remains under the influence of cold air masses. According to Natalia Ptukha, the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center, temperatures will remain below freezing both day and night in the near future.

On Thursday, February 19th, a cyclone with atmospheric fronts is expected to bring precipitation to the south and east of the country, with temperatures ranging from -5 to +2 degrees Celsius at night. In most of the northern and central regions, nighttime temperatures will plummet to -7 to -13 degrees Celsius, with daytime temperatures between -2 and -8 degrees Celsius.

Friday and Saturday are predicted to see even lower temperatures. By Saturday and Sunday, a high-pressure field will initiate to exert influence, potentially bringing clear skies but similarly a further drop in temperatures overnight.

Snowfall Patterns

Snow cover currently exists in the Carpathian Mountains, most western regions, and the northern and central parts of Ukraine. Southeastern regions have less snow, but significant snowfall is expected in the Kirovohrad, Cherkasy, Poltava, and Sumy regions through Thursday.

Moderate snow is forecast for central and eastern regions on Friday, with light snow in the west and north. Saturday will likely see mostly clear conditions, with only a small chance of wet snow in the south, Transcarpathia, and the Carpathian Mountains.

Warming Trend and Future Outlook

While significant frosts will continue until Sunday, February 22nd, with nighttime temperatures below -10 degrees Celsius (and as low as -18 degrees Celsius in the north), a warming trend is on the horizon.

On Monday, February 23rd, temperatures are expected to rise, particularly in the west and south of the country, with daytime temperatures reaching +1 to +7 degrees Celsius. Nighttime temperatures in the west and south will also climb to 0 to -6 degrees Celsius.

Air currents will initially be from the east but will shift to the west by Tuesday, with wind speeds of 7–12 meters per second.
