Colombia and Indonesia Strengthen Educational Ties with New Scholarship Opportunities
A recent academic meeting hosted by the National Open and Distance University (UNAD) in Neiva, Colombia, has paved the way for increased educational cooperation between Colombia and Indonesia. The meeting, framed within the “Getting to know Indonesia: global business and education” Social Solidarity Chair, focused on strengthening academic dialogue and exploring opportunities for collaboration in education, academic mobility, and joint projects.
Indonesian Delegation Visits UNAD
The visit included a delegation led by Tatang Budie Utama Razak, the Indonesian Ambassador to Colombia, and Bernadeta Julia Pratiwi, Minister Counselor and Head of the Sociocultural Section of the Indonesian Embassy. They presented an overview of Indonesia’s economic, cultural, and educational landscape to the UNAD academic community, highlighting potential avenues for partnership.
New Scholarship Opportunities for Colombian Students
A key outcome of the meeting was the announcement of new scholarship opportunities offered by Indonesia to Colombian students. These scholarships will support undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, aiming to bolster academic exchange and expand international training opportunities for Colombian youth.
Broad Participation and Collaborative Efforts
The event drew a significant audience, with 1,870 participants attending both in-person and virtually from centers in Huila, Tolima, Caquetá, and Putumayo. The meeting was a collaborative effort involving the Indonesian Embassy, UNAD South Zone, the Regional Intersystemic Observatory of the Vice-rector of Social Inclusion for Regional Development and Community Projection (VIDER), and the International Business program of the School of Administrative, Accounting, Economic and Business Sciences (ECACEN), with support from the Huila University Network.
Indonesia’s Economic and Global Role
Ambassador Razak emphasized the importance of youth in national development and provided insights into Indonesia’s economic standing. He noted that Indonesia, with a population of nearly 287 million, boasts a Gross Domestic Product exceeding $1.3 trillion, making it the largest economy in Southeast Asia. Indonesia is likewise an active member of key international organizations, including ASEAN, BRICS, and the G20.
Future Collaboration and Initiatives
Beyond academic opportunities, the meeting explored potential cooperation in areas such as culture, commerce, and tourism. Plans are underway to establish a technical working group with the embassy’s sociocultural section to advance bilateral initiatives. These include joint research projects, academic mobility programs, Spanish language training for international students through UNAD’s Virtual Language Institute (INVIL), and the organization of an Indonesia Day at UNAD.
Through these efforts, UNAD aims to strengthen its internationalization strategy and foster dialogue that connects territories with global academic and cultural opportunities.
