HealthPartners and UnitedHealthcare Reach Agreement, Preserving Medicare Access for Thousands
Minnetonka-based UnitedHealthcare and Bloomington-based HealthPartners have announced a new network contract, averting a potential disruption in healthcare access for tens of thousands of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries.
The agreement, announced Tuesday, ensures continued access to HealthPartners’ hospitals, facilities, and physicians for individuals enrolled in various UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage plans.
Addressing Claims Concerns
The news comes after HealthPartners threatened to drop out of the UnitedHealthcare Medicare Advantage network in 2025. HealthPartners cited concerns over excessive coverage denials and payment delays experienced by seniors utilizing their services.
"Our renewed relationship with HealthPartners helps ensure continued access to quality, affordable care through a robust network of providers throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin," stated UnitedHealthcare.
Relief for Patients
HealthPartners confirmed the agreement, emphasizing that it addresses the previously raised concerns. They issued a letter to patients expressing regret for the uncertainty and stress caused by the potential network disruption.
"We’d like you to know that we were able to reach an agreement with UnitedHealthcare that addresses our concerns,” the letter stated. "This means HealthPartners will remain an in-network provider in UnitedHealthcare’s Medicare Advantage network in 2025."
Impact on Minnesotans
This agreement is significant as HealthPartners owns Regions Hospital in St. Paul, Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, and a large network of clinics operating under the brands HealthPartners and Park Nicollet. Approximately 30,000 seniors would have been affected by the potential network disruption.
Looking Ahead
The finalized contract provides stability and continuity of care for thousands of Medicare beneficiaries in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
