Vavassori adn Errani Conquer US Open Mixed Doubles title
Andrea Vavassori and Sara Errani have triumphed in the mixed doubles competition at the US Open, defeating Casper Ruud and Iga Swiatek 6/3, 5/7, 10-6. This victory marks thier third Grand Slam title as a team, and their second consecutive US open championship, adding to their Roland Garros win earlier this year.
The pair, who entered the tournament as a Wild Card, proved their strength throughout the competition, overcoming challenges from top-seeded teams like Ribakyna/Fritz,Muchova/Rublev,and Collins/Harrison. They successfully defended their title in the newly formatted event.
The tournament featured a unique format wiht initial sets reduced to four games, culminating in a conventional final set. The winners received a record-breaking prize money of $1 million, a notable increase from the $100,000 each received in 2024.
Vavassori had previously voiced concerns about the changes to the mixed doubles format, believing it diminished the value of experience and expertise in the discipline. He argued that excluding many experienced doubles teams was unfair.
