Diesel Spill Causes Scooter Accident in Ventimiglia
Ventimiglia, Italy – A road accident occurred on February 22, 2026, along state road 20 at number 220 of Corso Limone Piemonte in Ventimiglia. The incident involved a van, a car with French license plates and a scooter, resulting in serious injuries to an elderly man.
Details of the Accident
According to initial reports, a van carrying a plastic tank containing approximately one thousand liters of diesel fuel collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction. The impact caused the tank to fall from the van and rupture, spilling diesel fuel onto the roadway.
Shortly after, an eighty-year-old man riding a scooter lost control of his vehicle due to the slippery conditions created by the fuel spill. He fell and sustained serious injuries.
Emergency Response
Emergency services, including 118 health workers, firefighters, and a crew from the Blue Cross of Vallecrosia, responded promptly to the scene. Police were also present to manage traffic and secure the area. The injured man was stabilized and transported to the Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure by helicopter. His life is not currently in danger.
Road Clearance and Investigation
Efforts were undertaken to clear the diesel fuel from the roadway and restore safe conditions on state road 20, a major artery connecting the coast to the hinterland. Investigations are underway to determine the precise cause of the accident and to assess any potential liabilities.
