vfl Hameln’s basketball department received welcome news before teh start of the 2025/2026 season. TSV Neustadt Shooter, a Bundesliga club, nominated VfL to receive a one-time training bonus of €1,500. This funding will directly support paid coaching in the primary school and mini basketball programs.

Jan Gebauer, now managing director of the Shooters in the 2nd Bundesliga (PROG), previously competed against VfL Hameln at the senior level. He initiated the nomination.

“VfL and TSV have consistently battled in the Oberliga and regional leagues for years,” Gebauer explains. “This longevity is only possible with strong youth growth at both clubs.”

The funds originate from the German Basketball Training Fund, established during the 2008/2009 BBL season. This fund provides a “solidarity fund” to support associations focused on youth talent development. Many players within the German basketball system contribute to training young athletes.

The work of local amateur associations is crucial for fostering enthusiasm for basketball among children and teenagers. The German Basketball Training Fund e. V. allocates €1,500 per Bundesliga club (currently 63) annually to amateur organizations. Bundesliga clubs are required to support non-partner amateur associations with these funds, ensuring the money directly benefits basic school programs or regional development initiatives.
