Vietnam is mobilizing its national volleyball squads for the 20th Asian Games (ASIAD 20), set for Japan, from September 16 to October 3.

A Four-Front Assault on Aichi-Nagoya

The Vietnam Volleyball Federation is preparing to deploy four representative teams: the men’s and women’s indoor squads, alongside men’s and women’s beach volleyball pairs. It is an ambitious slate. The participation plan is currently being finalized for submission to the Vietnam Sports Administration and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Paying for the journey requires a hybrid approach. Funding will rely on a mix of state resources and socialized financing provided by the federation, a dual-funding model designed to ensure all four disciplines have the necessary support for training, international travel, and logistics.

Rosters and Rigor at National Training Camps

Preparation is already underway. Athletes are locked into high-performance training camps to meet the technical and physical demands of the continental stage.

At the Bac Ninh University of Physical Education and Sports, the women’s indoor national squad is training with a roster of 28 players. Meanwhile, the men’s indoor roster consists of 19 players currently stationed at the National Sports Training Center.

These programs fall under the direct supervision of the Vietnam Sports Administration. Coaches are operating under strict instructions to prioritize the federation’s specific performance targets, with a heavy emphasis on tactical development and conditioning ahead of the window.

The 2026 Competition Timeline

The volleyball schedule will stretch across the duration of the Games. Women’s indoor volleyball is slated for the opening week, with the men’s indoor matches scheduled to follow and conclude in the final days of the event.

Beach volleyball will not wait. The tournament for both men and women will run concurrently with the indoor events, providing a full slate of matches through October 3.

Strategic Objectives and Venue Logistics

The events will be hosted across specialized indoor and outdoor facilities in Japan.

For the Vietnam Volleyball Federation, the mandate from the Vietnam Sports Administration is clear: all four teams must achieve peak performance levels. It is a strategic effort to elevate Vietnam’s standing in continental volleyball, backed by a combination of government budget allocations and mobilized socialized funds.
