Apple Vision Pro 2: Rumors Swirl Around M5 Chip and Discounted Model
Apple enthusiasts are abuzz with anticipation for the next iteration of Apple’s Vision Pro headset. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revealed through a tweet that the company is planning an upgraded Vision Pro for 2025, equipped with the upcoming M5 chip, a successor to the M2 chip currently powering the first model.
Alongside the potential chip upgrade, rumors suggest Apple is working on a more affordable version of the Vision Pro. However, these plans seem to be on indefinite hold, with Kuo stating that production of the budget-friendly headset has been delayed to “beyond 2027.”
Price is a Barrier to Mass Adoption
Apple CEO Tim Cook has acknowledged that the Vision Pro’s $3,499 starting price is a barrier to mass adoption. He described it as “an early-adopter product,” aimed at those who crave the latest technology.
Beyond the Vision Pro: Other Developments in Apple’s Reality Vision Plans
Mark Gurman, Bloomberg’s trusted Apple insider, echoed Kuo’s sentiments regarding an “M chip upgrade” for the Vision Pro in his recent Power On newsletter. However, a specific release date remains unclear.
Furthermore, Gurman speculates that Apple continues to develop a more affordable version of the Vision Pro, equipped with “scaled-down technologies,” although without providing a timeline for its arrival. He also hints at an intriguing possibility: an iPhone-connected device resembling glasses, potentially for entertainment purposes, similar to offerings from Xreal.
“I also continue to hear that Apple is seriously considering a device that offloads the computing components to an iPhone and serves as an accessory for watching movies,” Gurman reported. “That’s something that would be roughly akin to the glasses offered by companies like Xreal. The benefit for Apple is that it would reinforce the iPhone as the center of its product ecosystem and offer something that could be a much more popular option than the $3,500 Vision Pro.”
