This Sunday, Nottingham Forest announced Vítor Pereira as their fourth manager this season. The team is fighting against relegation in the Premier League and signed the Portuguese after the dismissal of Sean Dyche, following Wednesday’s goalless draw against bottom club Wolverhampton. The coach signs until the end of the 2026/2027 season.

“Nottingham Forest is pleased to confirm that Vítor Pereira has been appointed Head Coach on an 18-month agreement”, the club said in a statement, which also mentioned the technical team that would accompany him: “Joining the technical team will be Filipe Jorge Monteiro Almeida (Assistant Coach), Luis Miguel Moreira Da Silva (Assistant Coach), Bruno Filipe Araujo De Moura (Head of Physical Performance and Opponent Analysis), and Pedro Simao Capela Silva Lopes (Adversary Analyst)”.

Among the motivations for the choice is the campaign that resulted in Wolves remaining in the English top flight last season.

“He was head coach of the Wolves club. Taking over with the club in the relegation zone, Pereira led them on a six-game winning run that helped guide them to safety during the 2024/25 season. It was the longest winning run by any team in the top flight last season, in a campaign that also saw Wolves score a record number of Premier League goals. The 57-year-old now heads to Trentsside in a deal that runs until the summer of 2027.

Pereira had been out of work since being sacked by Wolves in November following a disastrous start to the season. The Portuguese coach had saved the team from relegation in the 2024-25 season, after replacing Gary O’Neil, but was unable to build on that success this season.

He previously worked with controversial Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Greek club Olympiakos. In Brazil, the Portuguese managed Corinthians (in 2022) and Flamengo (2023).

Pereira’s debut as coach of Forest (which has Brazilians Igor Jesus, Murillo, Jair, Morato and John Victor in the squad) will be next week, in the first game of the Europa League play-off phase, against Fenerbahçe. But his main objective is to keep Forest in the Premier League. The team is three points above the relegation zone, with 12 games left in the championship.

Against Wolves, Forest had 35 shots on target but failed to score, and Dyche was sacked just hours after the final whistle at the City Ground. The 54-year-old was in charge for just 114 days, becoming the third coach sacked by Marinakis this season, after Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou.
