The Volkswagen Group experienced a considerable surge in electric vehicle (EV) deliveries last year, reaching a total of 983,000 battery electric vehicles (BEVs) worldwide. This represents a meaningful 32% increase compared to the previous year, demonstrating a growing commitment to and demand for electric mobility.
Despite a slight overall decrease in total vehicle sales to 8.98 million units, the proportion of EVs within the Group’s total deliveries exceeded 10% for the first time, marking a pivotal moment in the company’s transition towards electrification.
Europe led the charge in EV adoption, witnessing a remarkable 66% increase in sales, totaling approximately 744,000 units. This growth underscores the region’s proactive policies and consumer enthusiasm for electric vehicles. However, sales in key markets like China and the United States faced headwinds due to intensifying competition, the imposition of tariffs, and reductions in government subsidies.
Volkswagen, the Group’s namesake brand, spearheaded the EV push, delivering approximately 382,000 electric cars. Strong performance in Germany and across Europe was particularly notable, boosted by the popularity of the ID.7 model. Cupra also demonstrated significant progress, selling nearly 80,000 electric cars, with bevs accounting for almost 25% of the brand’s total sales.
These figures highlight the Volkswagen Group’s continued investment in and success with electric vehicles, despite challenging global market conditions. The company remains focused on expanding its EV portfolio and increasing its market share in the rapidly evolving automotive landscape.
