Athletes, coaches, and everyone involved in sports, stay informed! The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has updated its Prohibited List for 2025, taking effect January 1, 2025.

Prohibited Substances: Key Additions and Updates

The 2025 prohibited list includes several important additions and modifications:

  • S0. Non-Approved Substances: Ryanodine receptor-1-calstabin complex stabilizers, specifically S-107 and S48168 (ARM210), have been added to S0.
  • S3. Beta-2 Agonists: Dosing intervals for inhaled formoterol have been updated to 12-hourly to prevent ergogenic effects, aligning with manufacturers’ recommended use.
  • S5. Diuretics and Masking Agents: Xipamide has been added as an example diuretic.
  • S4. Hormone and Metabolic Modulators: Elacestrant (an anti-estrogen), mitochondrial open reading frame of the 12S rRNA-c (MOTS-c) (an AMP-activated protein kinase activator), S519, and S597 (insulin-mimetics) have been added.

Prohibited Methods: Clarification

WADA has made a minor editorial change to enhance clarity within the Gene and Cell Doping category.

Substances Entering the 2025 Monitoring Program

Several substances are now subject to ongoing monitoring:

  • Anabolic Agents: Ecdysterone is monitored in and out of competition.
  • Hypoxen (polyhydroxyphenylene thiosulfonate sodium): Monitored in and out of competition.
  • Stimulants: Bupropion, caffeine, nicotine, phenylephrine, phenylpropanolamine, pipradrol, and synephrine are monitored during competition only.
  • Narcotics: Codeine, dermorphin (and its analogues), dihydrocodeine, hydrocodone, and tapentadol are monitored during competition only, while fentanyl and tramadol are monitored out of competition.
  • Semaglutide: Monitored in and out of competition.
