Hardcore Band End It After Controversial Incident
Following a controversial incident at a Toronto show, Baltimore hardcore band End It has tried to put their feud with “Banana Man” to bed. The band invited a fan in a banana outfit on stage during a festival in the Netherlands on June 27.
What Happened at the Toronto Show?
The controversy began during a June 5 performance at Toronto’s Lithuanian House, where frontman Akil Godsey confronted a fan wearing a banana costume. Footage from the event shows Godsey accusing the fan of seeking attention and offering the band’s setlist to anyone who would “strip the banana,” prompting audience members to dismantle the costume.

The fan later posted on Instagram, describing the experience as “unwilling participation” and criticizing the band for removing his clothing “at the direction of a band I paid to see.” Godsey initially defended the act, stating, “We’re a hardcore band. We do hardcore things.”
How Did the Band Respond?
End It addressed the situation during a June 27 set at the Jera on Air festival in Ysselsteyn, the Netherlands. The band invited a fan wearing a banana costume on stage, with Godsey quipping, “Who would’ve thought doing something stupid at a show would get me a month of attention?”
The incident was dubbed “The Great Banana Treaty of Ysselsteyn” by Godsey.
What Did the Original “Banana Man” Say?
The original fan responded to the reconciliation effort with a brief comment on social media: “Yea, nah.” In subsequent interactions, he clarified that he had not profited from the incident, noting, “A few show tickets have come my way from it. But I’m really more interested in socialising over this than capitalising on it.”
What’s Next for End It?
End It, formed in Baltimore in 2017, released their debut album *Wrong Side Of Heaven* last August via Flatspot Records.
