Huawei Mate X6 Review: Is It Worth €2,000?

The Huawei Mate X6, a sleek and powerful foldable phone launched in China towards the end of November, is now expanding its reach to the global market. Available in a single 12/512GB configuration, priced at €2,000, the Mate X6 is set to begin shipping to international customers on January 6th.

This makes it a direct competitor to other high-end foldable phones like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6 and Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. But at this price point, especially without Google Play support, many are wondering if the Mate X6 truly justifies the cost.

To be fair, Huawei has been actively expanding its AppGallery since its launch, and it now includes popular banking apps and more. However, the high price tag, combined with the lack of Google Play access, is a significant hurdle for many potential buyers.

The Competition

The Huawei Mate X6 faces stiff competition from other foldable phones in the European market.

One key contender is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6, which is also priced at €2,000 but offers 12/256GB of storage. While you can find Galaxy Z Fold6 models at lower prices due to its age, the upcoming Z Fold7 is expected to have a similar price point and specifications closer to the Z Fold Special Edition (10.6mm folded, 236g). In contrast, the Mate X6 boasts a slim profile at 9.9mm when folded and weighs 239g. The Z Fold6 features a 50+10+12MP triple camera system, while the Z Fold7 is rumored to have a 200MP main camera. Battery life is also a concern with the Z Fold6’s 4,400mAh capacity and 25W wired and 15W wireless charging capabilities.

The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is another contender, though it folds to a slightly thicker 10.5mm and weighs 257g. It features a compelling 6.3” cover display and a 8” inner display. Its cameras include a 48MP main, 10.8MP 112mm periscope, and a 10.5MP ultrawide (127°). However, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold has a smaller 4,650mAh battery with slower 21W wired and 7.5W wireless charging speeds.

The Honor Magic V3 enters the fold at €2,000 for its 12/512GB configuration. It displays a 6.43″ front screen and an expansive 7.92″ inner display, folding down to a thin 9.2mm with a lightweight 226g design. You’ll find a 50MP main, 50MP 90mm periscope, and a 40MP ultrawide (16mm, 112°) camera setup, accompanied by a 5,150mAh battery with fast 66W wired and 50W wireless charging speeds.

For Indian consumers, the Honor Magic V3 is on its way soon, while the vivo X Fold3 Pro is already available at ₹160,000 for a 16/512GB configuration.

So, is the Huawei Mate X6 the right foldable phone for you? It offers competitive features and a unique design, but you need to carefully consider its price, lack of Google Play compatibility, and the strong competition in the market.
