PAHO‘s Commitment to Health Equity in the Americas

The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is actively fostering health equity across the Americas through strengthened intersectoral collaboration, capacity building, and the progress of robust monitoring frameworks. These efforts aim to address the social determinants of health and create healthier, more equitable communities for all.

PAHO champions initiatives like the intersectoral work network and social participation for health equity in the Americas (Red Tipsessa), a collaborative platform uniting over 50 institutions across more than 13 countries. This network facilitates the exchange of knowledge and best practices to advance health equity.https://www.paho.org/en

Recognizing the crucial role of local governance, PAHO provides virtual courses tailored for health ministries and local governments. These courses focus on implementing inclusive and participatory public policies. the Healthy Municipalities,Cities and Communities (MCCS) platform, connecting more than 3,800 cities throughout the Americas, serves as a key resource for local leaders seeking to prioritize health and well-being. https://www.paho.org/mccs

Currently, PAHO is developing an analytical framework and associated indicators to enable countries to effectively monitor and evaluate intersectoral initiatives through an equity lens. This tool will ensure that interventions are both effective and lasting in achieving their intended outcomes.

PAHO also encourages broad participation in promoting health as a shared obligation. Individuals are invited to join the party of Welfare Week 2025 and contribute to spreading the message that health is a collective concern. Whether as decision-makers, community leaders, journalists, or engaged citizens, every voice and action is valuable in building a healthier and more equitable future for the Americas.
