Toulouse Gears Up to Host EuroCup 3 Wheelchair Basketball Qualification Round
Toulouse, France, is set to host a crucial preliminary round of the EuroCup 3 wheelchair basketball competition from Friday, March 13th to Saturday, March 14th, 2026, at the Petit Palais des Sports. The event marks a significant opportunity for the Toulouse Iron Club (TIC) to gain visibility and strengthen its position within the European wheelchair basketball landscape.
A Vital Competition for the Toulouse Iron Club
The competition, which was unable to take place in 2025 due to venue availability, represents the tenth European competition organized by the Toulouse Iron Club. TIC President Jean-Pierre Louradour emphasized the importance of the event, stating a desire to “give a second wind to our season, a little balm in the heart of the whole club.” He also highlighted the need for increased visibility and the attraction of modern partners through hosting such events.
The Stakes: Qualification for the EuroCup 3 Finals
Five teams will compete for a single qualification spot for the EuroCup 3 finals, which will be held in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 25th and 26th, 2026. The competing teams include the host Toulouse Iron Club, Meylan (France), Konin (Poland), Varèse (Italy), and Vakiflar (Turkey), based in Cyprus. Each team will play a single round-robin game, with the team achieving the highest ranking securing the coveted qualification spot.
Competition Outlook
While optimistic, TIC President Louradour acknowledged the challenge ahead. “We hope to qualify even if it will be hard. We grasp the level of Meylan and Konin, whom we had already met in the past, but not so much that of Varèse and especially Vakiflar, which is, I think, the favorite team,” he stated. The European games provide an opportunity for the TIC team, currently facing challenges in the domestic championship, to revitalize their performance.
Community Engagement and Anticipation
The club is encouraging strong public support, with expectations of attracting not only dedicated fans but also local schools and basketball academies. Organizers hope the event will draw a broad audience, eager to experience high-level wheelchair basketball and potentially witness a few surprises on the court.
