CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois remained undefeated in the Ohio Valley Conference, but the Panthers’ streak of consecutive shutouts came too an end with a 1-1 draw against southern Indiana on Thursday afternoon at Lakeside Field.
Both teams were able to find the net in the second half as EIU moved to 7-4-3 4-0-1 in the OVC. USI moved to 5-5-4 on the year, 2-0-3 in the OVC.
USI keeper Anna Markland finished with two saves while EIU keeper Ella Kratochvil made one. EIU had its streak of six consecutive shutouts come to an end during the match, a total tied for the second most in OVC history.
EIU scored first in the contest with Alex Tetteh scoring her seventh goal of the season, knocking home a loose ball in the middle of a scrum in front of the USI net just four minutes into the second half.
USI countered in the 55th minute as Peyton Murphy directed a pass from emerson Grafton into the net from the right corner of the goal box.
Murphy had three of the Screaming Eagles’ eight shots in the match. EIU was balanced with six total shots. Amelia Mundo and Amanda Pankiewicz had the Panthers’ shots on goal.
TENNESSEE TECH 4, MOREHEAD STATE 1
MOREHEAD, Ky. – In a match that featured its fair share of ancient importance, the Tennessee Tech soccer team remained unbeaten in OVC play and extended its winning streak to a season-long three straight in a 4-1 victory at Morehead State Thursday afternoon.
The offensive outburst marked the first time in program history the Golden Eagles have scored at least four goals in three consecutive contests, following a 6-1 victory over Western Illinois on Sept. 28 and a 4-1 triumph at Lindenwood on Sunday. The 14 goals are also the most over a three-match stretch in program history.
Tech (3-6-6, 3-0-2 OVC) did a bulk of the damage in the second half, finding the back of the net three times after intermission following a Lucia cuadra goal in the 21st minute that gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead at the break. Cuadra’s fourth goal of the year was made possible on a Tori Soutuyo cross that gave Soutuyo an assist on the play.
Katie Toney opened the scoring in the second stanza with a goal in the 62nd minute that pushed Tech’s edge to 2-0. The McMinnville, Tenn. native capitalized on a Cuadra through ball for her second goal of the season. Cuadra’s assist was the first of two on the day, after the Barcelona, Spain product aided Tech’s third goal in the 72nd minute to cap off a four-point showing for Cuadra.
Morehead State (3-11-0, 1-4-0 OVC) had cut tech’s lead in half behind a Lily Burt goal in the 69th minute, but Reagan Smiley instantly gave the Golden Eagles their two-goal lead right back with her second score of the season.
Natalie Howard,who split the pipes twice on Sunday in the win at Lindenwood,put the finishing touches on Tech’s offensive showcase with her club-leading fifth goal of the year in the 82nd minute.The sophomore forward collected a feed from Cheyenne McClain.
