WVU Football: Rich Rodriguez Releases Depth Chart for Coastal Carolina Opener

West Virginia University head coach Rich Rodriguez released the program’s official football depth chart ahead of the team’s Week 1 matchup against Coastal Carolina, featuring numerous “OR” designations across multiple positions. The designations reflect roster depth rather than uncertainty, with kickoff scheduled for 12 p.m. ET on TNT.

Offensive Depth Chart and Key Battles

The offensive unit features several notable positional battles heading into the opening week. The quarterback position lists Michael Hawkins Jr. alongside Scotty Fox Jr., while Jyron Hughley and Max Brown occupy another shared line. The running back room highlights newcomers, with Amari Latimer and Martavious Boswell listed alongside other contributors.

Along the offensive line, Kevin Brown anchors the left tackle spot, while the center position features Josh Aisosa and Landen Livingston competing for primary snaps, while other units balance depth with younger talent.

Defensive and Special Teams Alignments

Defensively, the depth chart highlights emerging underclassmen alongside veterans. Cam Torbor, a redshirt freshman, is slated to see time at the will linebacker position, competing alongside Ashton Woods. The safety and defensive front rotations also utilize multiple “OR” listings to maximize playing time for a deeper roster compared to the previous season.

Special teams assignments incorporate multi-faceted contributors. Matt Sieg is slated for involvement in the return game while also contributing defensively at safety.

Coach’s Assessment of Roster Depth

Addressing reporters during his press conference, Rodriguez explained that the prevalence of shared lines on the depth chart stems from positive competition rather than a lack of definitive options. The head coach stated that the team possesses multiple players capable of winning at every position.

"I think mostly for us, it’s in a good way," Rodriguez told reporters. "If you have an OR because you’re not sure either one of them are ready to do that, that makes that not so good. Most of our ORs, probably all of them, are because we feel good about multiple guys at those positions. I think we’re a deeper team for sure than we were a year ago."
