WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event Set for Fort Wayne, Indiana
WWE has announced that the next installment of Saturday Night’s Main Event will take place on May 23 at the Allen County Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This marks the first TV taping in the city since November 2014, when an episode of SmackDown was recorded at the same venue.
Shift from Nashville
The event was initially rumored to be held in Nashville, Tennessee, but WWE confirmed the change of location in a press release on Thursday morning.
A Historic Venue for WWE
While WWE has consistently hosted live events in Fort Wayne over the past decade, this will be the first televised special from the city in over a decade. Saturday Night’s Main Event has previously been taped in Indiana, with SNME XI and SNME XXXI taking place in Notre Dame and Terre Haute in 1987 and 1992, respectively. The 1987 event featured a Lumberjack match between George “The Animal” Steele and “Macho Man” Randy Savage, while the 1992 show saw Bret Hart defend the WWE Championship against Papa Shango.
Part of a Busy Stretch for WWE
This special falls within a busy three-week period for WWE, sandwiched between WWE Backlash in Tampa Bay, Florida, and Clash in Italy on May 31. It will also occur the day before AEW’s Double or Nothing event in Queens, New York.
