Microsoft has announced its Xbox Game Pass lineup for September, bringing a diverse mix of titles including the survival RPG RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the tactical card-battler The Royal Writ, and the return of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Subscribers gain access to several day-one releases, alongside trials and updates, while losing a wave of departing games mid-month according to Microsoft’s official schedule.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds Heads to Consoles

The iconic RuneScape franchise arrives on consoles for the first time in 25 years when RuneScape: Dragonwilds launches worldwide on September 15, according to developer announcements. Set in the legendary world of Gielinor, the game takes place on the hidden, magical continent of Ashenfall. Players step into the shoes of an ordinary adventurer rather than a fabled hero, utilizing martial and magical skills to climb from level one to 99. The survival RPG features base building, combat against enemies like Black Knights and chromatic dragons, and skill spells that allow players to harvest resources instantly. The title will be available free for Xbox Game Pass holders on launch day.

Day-One Releases and New Additions

September’s catalogue opens with several distinct titles across cloud, console, and PC tiers:

  • Shelldiver: Available immediately across cloud, console, and PC for Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass subscribers, this title lets players control an older sea turtle catching and selling jellyfish while upgrading gear and exploring ocean biomes.
  • Speedrunners 2: King of Speed: Arriving on September 3 for cloud, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, this competitive platform sequel supports eight players online with rampines, power-ups, and intricate maps.
  • Dice a Million: Debuting September 4 on Xbox Series X|S, cloud, and PC via Game Pass, this roguelike deckbuilder challenges players to obtain one million using dice combinations and rings.
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War: Launching September 8 for Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass members, Raven Software’s single-player campaign takes players through East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey, and the Soviet KGB headquarters.
  • The Royal Writ and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. World Stage: Arriving on September 10, The Royal Writ offers a medieval card-battler where fallen heroes join the kingdom’s legend, while the fighting game introduces a new single-player “World Stage” mode alongside cross-play and rollback netcode.

Updates, Trials, and Perks

Beyond new game launches, September brings important updates and perks to the platform. TCG Card Shop Simulator leaves early access to release its 1.0 version on September 15, allowing players to manage a trading card store and host tournaments. Ice hockey fans can access a 10-hour trial of EA Sports NHL 27 starting September 4 via EA Play, carrying over all progress to the full game upon purchase. Additionally, starting September 16, players of the open-world RPG Aniimo can claim an exclusive monthly reward pack containing an Aniipod Ultra, 15 Growth Flowers, and 300 Glimmer units across all subscription tiers.

Departing Titles in Mid-September

As new games enter the service, several fan favorites will leave the Xbox Game Pass library on September 15. Subscribers who wish to keep playing titles such as Commandos: Origins, Cricket 24, Cyberpunk 2077 (cloud and console), Dead Cells, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, Frostpunk 2 (PC), Mullet Madjack, Spiritfarer, Superliminal, and Train Sim World 5 can take advantage of member discounts before they rotate out of the catalogue.
