Indonesia is aggressively pursuing a vision to become a major global hub for electric vehicle (EV) production by 2027, leveraging its vast nickel reserves – a crucial component in EV batteries. The government’s strategy encompasses the entire EV ecosystem, from nickel processing and battery manufacturing to vehicle assembly and infrastructure development.
The nation holds approximately 69% of the world’s nickel reserves, primarily located in Sulawesi. Rather than simply exporting raw materials, Indonesia aims to maximize value by processing nickel domestically into battery-grade materials like nickel sulfate, and ultimately, into complete lithium-ion batteries. This downstreaming effort is central to the plan, attracting notable foreign investment from companies like LG Energy Solution, CATL, and Hyundai.
Several large-scale battery factories are already under construction,with a combined projected capacity exceeding 150 GWh by 2027. These facilities will not only cater to the growing domestic EV market but also target export opportunities to key markets like Europe and the United States.
the Indonesian government is offering a range of incentives to attract investment, including tax breaks, simplified licensing procedures, and support for research and development. Furthermore,substantial investments are being made in charging infrastructure across the archipelago,aiming to alleviate range anxiety and encourage EV adoption.
Though, challenges remain. Developing a skilled workforce capable of supporting the complex EV industry is a priority. Concerns surrounding lasting mining practices and environmental impact are also being addressed through stricter regulations and a focus on responsible resource management.
Despite these hurdles, indonesia’s ambitious plan is gaining momentum. If successful, it will not only transform the nation’s economy but also play a significant role in the global transition towards sustainable transportation. The government is confident that Indonesia’s strategic location, abundant resources, and proactive policies will position it as a key player in the burgeoning EV market.
This facts was published in an official Tech Advisor report. What is in the spotlight is not only the specifications but also Xiaomi’s decision to skip the model number “16” and immediately use the number “17”.
This decision is referred to as a intentional branding strategy. This was reported in a Bild media report wich stated that Xiaomi wants to be in the same line as Apple, which first used the number 17 for its newest iPhone line.
If you look at the technical specifications, the Xiaomi 17 doesn’t just “copy the appearance” of the iPhone 17 but actually appears more aggressive in several aspects.
Based on a comparison published by Gadgets360, the Xiaomi 17 is equipped with a battery of up to 7,000 mAh complete with support for fast charging of 100 watts via cable and 50 watts wirelessly.
