The incident occurred in the bottom of the first inning as Betts was tracking down a fly ball hit by Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres. Two fans sitting in the front row near the foul pole in right field attempted to interfere with Betts, grabbing at his glove and trying to pull it off his hand. One fan even managed to rip the ball out of Betts’ glove.

Officials immediately called fan interference, awarding Betts the out. Security personnel swiftly escorted the two fans out of the stadium.

The fans were identified as brothers Austin and Darren Capobianco. Austin, a season ticket holder, declined to comment on the incident but stated he just wanted to “watch the game.” Darren, however, claimed that Betts was swearing at them.

“I just see the ball kind of — I don’t want to say [go up for grabs, if that makes sense,” Darren Capobianco said, via The Athletic. “And then Mookie was swearing at us. Not good.”

This incident follows a similar one involving Betts and fans during the 2018 ALCS when he was with the Boston Red Sox. Fan interference has been a recurring issue throughout the 2024 postseason.

The Dodgers entered Game 4 with a commanding 3-0 lead in the series, quickly extending their advantage with a two-run homer from Freddie Freeman in the top of the first inning. Freeman continues his phenomenal performance, hitting a home run in all four World Series games and six straight dating back to 2021, setting new records in both categories.

Can the Yankees overcome this 0-3 deficit and achieve a historic comeback? Or will the Dodgers secure their second World Series title in four years?

Stay tuned for the next chapter in this thrilling World Series!
