ZABS Place, a Matthews-based nonprofit thrift boutique, received a $1,000 donation in June thanks to WBTV’s 3 Degree Guarantee.
The funds were generously provided by McClintock Heating and Cooling. WBTV’s weather team maintained a high level of forecast accuracy throughout June, with temperatures predicted within 3 degrees on all but one weekday, triggering the donation to the local organization.
Established in 2014, ZABS Place focuses on empowering young adults with special needs – recognizing these as unique talents – by providing them with valuable job skills and life experience to foster their contributions to the community.
The nonprofit operates a thrift boutique in downtown Matthews, offering shoppers a distinctive and inclusive retail experience. Young adults participate in all aspects of running the store as part of their training.
“We really concentrate on the individual at ZABS Place,” explains Rachel Groner, director of the organization. “We help them discover their strengths and passions, and then work with them to develop a path toward achieving their career goals.”

About the 3 Degree Guarantee
The WBTV First Alert Weather team is dedicated to delivering the most precise weather forecasts possible.
The 3 Degree guarantee demonstrates this commitment by allocating funds – sponsored by McClintock Heating and Cooling – based on forecast accuracy.
For each weekday the team’s temperature prediction falls within 3 degrees of the actual temperature, a $50 donation is made to the chosen monthly nonprofit.
At the end of the month, the total accumulated donation is presented to the selected organization.
