Train Disruption in Zevenbergen: Truck Strikes Overhead Line
Zevenbergen, Netherlands – March 5, 2026 – Train services between Lage Zwaluwe and Roosendaal are suspended following an incident this morning where a truck collided with the overhead railway line at a level crossing on Prins Hendrikstraat in Zevenbergen. The disruption is expected to last until at least 10:15 PM local time.
What Happened?
Around 10:30 AM on Thursday, March 5th, a truck struck and damaged the overhead line at the railway crossing on Prins Hendrikstraat. The impact has rendered the line unusable, halting all train traffic between Lage Zwaluwe and Roosendaal. ProRail, the Dutch railway infrastructure manager, confirmed the incident.
Current Situation and Recovery Efforts
A contractor is currently on-site assessing the extent of the damage and developing a repair plan. Omroep Brabant reports the damage to the crossing is significant. ProRail has not yet provided a detailed timeline for the restoration of service, but estimates it will be at least 10:15 PM before trains can resume running. Reformatorisch Dagblad also confirmed the disruption.
Alternative Transportation
To mitigate the disruption, NS (Dutch Railways) has deployed replacement bus services. Buses are running between Lage Zwaluwe, Zevenbergen, Oudenbosch, and Roosendaal. Passengers are advised to check the NS journey planner for the latest information and bus schedules.
Understanding Overhead Lines
Trains rely on overhead lines to receive electrical power. Stroomafnemers (pantographs) on the roof of the train connect to these lines, transferring electricity to the train’s motor. Damage to the overhead line immediately cuts off power to that section of the track.
Traveler Information
Passengers affected by this disruption are strongly encouraged to consult the NS journey planner for the most up-to-date travel information and alternative route options.
