Indianapolis Police Shooting Injures Three Juveniles, Adult in Custody

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officers shot and injured three juvenile suspects Saturday night on the far east side of Indianapolis, following a pursuit related to a recent shooting. An adult male was as well taken into custody.

Details of the Incident

Around 10 p.m. On February 21, 2026, the IMPD’s Violent Crimes Task Force and SWAT team were following a vehicle believed to contain individuals involved in a recent shooting. According to police reports, a SWAT vehicle attempted to stop the suspect vehicle using a “grappler” device on East 10th Street near North German Church Road.

Someone inside the suspect vehicle then began shooting at officers, prompting at least one IMPD officer to return fire . The suspect vehicle continued to flee before being stopped by a “vehicle containment technique” employed by SWAT officers.

Injuries and Arrests

Three juvenile males were hospitalized in stable condition. Two suffered gunshot wounds, whereas the third was injured by “less lethal rounds” . An adult male was detained for further investigation.

At least one IMPD vehicle sustained damage from gunfire . A rifle and a handgun were recovered from inside the suspect vehicle.

Investigation

The IMPD Critical Incident Response Team is leading the criminal investigation, while IMPD Internal Affairs is conducting a separate administrative investigation. The officer involved in the shooting was wearing a body-worn camera, which was activated during the incident .

Tenth Street between German Church Road and Washington Point Drive was closed as officers investigated the scene. Police stated there was no ongoing threat to the public .
