16 people arrested for exhuming bodies to carry out new burials in Italy

The Italian Police have today arrested 16 people in various parts of the country suspected of carrying out unauthorized exhumations in the Novigrad cement plant (Reggio Calabria, sur) para cchange the bodies from their niches and carry out new burials.

The arrests were carried out by the carabineros (militarized police) in the provinces of Reggio (on), Milan y Vicenza (north), in execution of a judicial precautionary arrest order issued at the request of the prosecutor’s office, which accuses them of “illegal operations hidden behind the regular management of the Municipal cemetery“, is indicated in a note.

Among those detained are four members of the leadership of the criminal group: the former cemetery caretaker, now retiredand three local businessmen administrators of two funeral homesconsidered the leaders of this criminal network.

According to investigators, the four, who are in preventive detention“they had created a system of ‘parallel management’ to that of the local authority.”

“The suspects would have proceeded for years to unauthorized exhumationsdestroying or transferring the bodies of the deceased to other cemeteries to make room for new burials“, is explained in the note.
