Cade Climie Powers Houston with Solo Homer in Loss at TCU

Houston Cougars senior outfielder Cade Climie delivered a key offensive spark in Saturday’s matchup against TCU, launching a solo home run to left field in the second inning. The blast gave Houston an early 1-0 lead and marked Climie’s third home run of the weekend and eighth of the 2026 season.

Despite Climie’s effort and a strong start from senior pitcher Paul Schmitz, who held TCU to one run over 5.2 innings, the Cougars fell 4-2 to the Horned Frogs at Lupton Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas. TCU answered Climie’s homer with a solo shot by Preston Gamster in the third inning and later pulled ahead with a three-run rally in the eighth inning to secure the victory.

Climie went 1-for-4 at the plate with the home run, an RBI, and a run scored. His performance extended his season-long hitting streak to 15 games, the longest by a Houston player in 2026. He has now homered in each of the last three games and in four of the last six contests.

On the mound, Schmitz allowed just one run on five hits while striking out two and walking one. Houston’s bullpen struggled to maintain the lead, with reliever Ryne Rodriguez taking the loss after allowing three runs over 2.1 innings. Nate Stern recorded a shutout inning for TCU, and Tanner Sagouspe earned the save with a perfect ninth inning.

The loss drops Houston to 18-23 overall and 4-16 in Considerable 12 play, while TCU improves to 27-15 and 12-8 in conference action.

Climie continues to be one of the Cougars’ most consistent performers at the plate, batting .316 with a .415 on-base percentage and .709 slugging percentage through 29 games this season. He has seven home runs, 18 RBIs, and 14 stolen bases, showcasing his growing impact as a middle-of-the-order threat for Houston.
