Alauda Ruiz de Azúa Dominates 2026 Goya Awards with ‘Los Domingos’
Alauda Ruiz de Azúa’s film, Los Domingos, was the major winner at the 2026 Goya Awards, held in Barcelona, taking home five awards including Best Film, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actress, and Best Supporting Actress. Oliver Laxe’s Sirât also garnered significant recognition, winning six awards, primarily in technical categories.
‘Los Domingos’ Secures Top Honors
Los Domingos led this year’s nominations with 13 nods and ultimately secured the coveted Best Film award. Alauda Ruiz de Azúa also won Best Director, becoming only the fourth woman in the 40-year history of the Goya Awards to receive this honor, following Pilar Miró, Isabel Coixet, and Icíar Bollaín. Patricia López Arnaiz was recognized as Best Actress, and Nagore Aramburu won Best Supporting Actress for her role in the film.
‘Sirât’ Shines in Technical Categories
While Sirât didn’t win the top awards, it dominated the technical categories, earning recognition for Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Original Music, Best Production Direction, Best Artistic Direction, and Best Sound. The film is Spain’s submission for the Best International Feature Film Oscar and has also been nominated for Best Sound at the 2026 Oscars.

About the Films
Los Domingos, which debuted at the 2025 San Sebastian Film Festival where it won the top prize, follows Ainara, a 17-year-old grappling with a potential calling to religious life. Sirât, which premiered at Cannes, centers on a father and son searching for their missing daughter and sister at a rave in Morocco.
Susan Sarandon was also honored with an honorary Goya Award at the ceremony.
