BRATISLAVA (SZĽH) – The Slovak national hockey team has announced its 25-man roster for the upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Milan, with a blend of players from overseas leagues and European-based teams. The team, aiming to build on their bronze medal win at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, boasts a squad primarily comprised of players competing in the NHL, Czech Extraliga, and KHL.
The initial six players named earlier in the season included NHL stars Erik Černák (Tampa Bay Lightning), Martin Fehérváry (Washington Capitals), Šimon Nemec (New Jersey Devils), forwards Juraj Slafkovský (Montreal Canadiens) and Martin Pospíšil (Calgary Flames), as well as veteran Tomáš Tatar (EV Zug).
“the goal of the coaching staff was to assemble the strongest possible team representing the depth of Slovak hockey talent,” stated General Manager Miroslav Šatan. “We prioritized quality, experience, and current form in our selections. We believe this roster provides the best chance for success and reflects the expectations of our fans.”
Key Additions and Considerations

the finalized roster includes newcomer Adam Gajan, a promising goaltender currently playing at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, and the return of forward Adam Ružička, who has enjoyed a prosperous stint with Spartak Moscow in the KHL. Šatan noted the coaching staff closely monitored Ružička’s progress, affirming his proven offensive ability and current excellent form.
A key point of consideration remains the health status of Martin Pospíšil, who has yet to see game action this season. The team is optimistic about his potential return before the Olympics, with Šatan stating, “We’ve been monitoring Martin’s situation closely, and initial reports suggest he’ll be back in game shape shortly.”
Roster Breakdown & League Portrayal
The team’s composition reflects a wide range of hockey experience:
- NHL (9 players): Serving as a meaningful core of the team, these players bring a high level of skill and competition.
- Czech Extraliga (9 players): Providing a strong base of experience and talent from a prominent European league.
- KHL (3 players): Adding offensive firepower and skill from the kontinental Hockey League.

Training Players and Contingency Plans

These players will participate in practices and serve as potential replacements in the event of injuries. Šatan explained, “this allows us to maintain a flexible roster and ensure we’re prepared for any unforeseen circumstances.” The list of training players will be announced at a later date.
Looking Ahead to Milan
Head Coach Vladimír Országh emphasized the team’s ambition to compete with the best in the world. “We want to measure ourselves against the top teams and give everything we have,” he stated. “we are confident in our team’s ability to deliver a strong performance and make a positive impact at the Olympics.”
