manchester Under Attack Again
In 2017, a suicide bomber detonated at a pop concert in Manchester, killing 22 people and injuring over a thousand.
Now, another terrorist has struck the same city, this time targeting a synagogue on Yom Kippur. Two people are dead and others are seriously injured. Police responded quickly, killing the terrorist – who appeared to be wearing a suicide belt – within ten minutes.
Political leaders across the spectrum have condemned the attack. Prime Minister Keir Starmer instantly returned from a visit to copenhagen to chair a COBRA meeting this afternoon.
Police investigations are underway. Who committed this attack? Jews have reason to fear attacks from extremists on the left, right, and from radical Islamic groups. Manchester police state the attacker is a British citizen of Syrian descent. Was this a lone wolf, or was there a network involved? Reports indicate three arrests have been made, but the extent of their connection to the attack remains unknown. It’s crucial to avoid speculation until we have more facts. I suspect this attack wasn’t meticulously planned, and the terrorist may have acted alone, but we will have to wait and see.
