Verstappen’s Title Defence: Las Vegas Could Be Decisive

(Motorsport-Total.com) – On the very track where Max Verstappen clinched his fourth world title last year, his last chance for the title could slip away this season. Despite the strong comeback in Brazil, the world champion is under enormous pressure in Las Vegas to save his World Cup title.

A maximum of 58 points are still up for grabs in the last two races of the season, 25 points each for the Grand Prix victory and eight points for the victory in the Qatar Sprint. Simply put: If Verstappen is more then 58 points behind after the weekend in Las Vegas, his chance for the title is gone.

with a current gap of 49 points to championship leader Lando Norris, it’s clear the Dutchman can’t afford a weekend like the one in Brazil. If the Brit scores at least nine points more than Verstappen in Las Vegas, the world champion will be watching a mclaren driver win the championship this year, whether it’s Norris or teammate Oscar Piastri.

Norris can rob Verstappen of his World Cup chance

This means: If Norris wins the Las Vegas Grand Prix, Verstappen will have to finish second behind him to keep his World Championship hopes alive. A third-place finish wouldn’t be enough, as the gap would then grow to 59 points.
