The Henderson County Water District will begin replacing water meters starting Feb. 16th in Reed, Spottsville, and Baskett as part of a systemwide upgrade project.

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEVV) — The Henderson County Water District is preparing to begin a large-scale water meter replacement project starting Monday, Feb. 16, targeting customers in the Reed, Spottsville and Baskett communities.

Officials say the project is part of a systemwide improvement effort and marks the first major meter replacement in more than a decade. The work is also part of a larger water loss mitigation and infrastructure modernization plan for the district.

Beginning Feb. 16, district staff and contractors with AllDrive will begin installing new Neptune Mach 10 ultrasonic water meters. Officials say the new meters use advanced technology with no moving parts, helping provide more accurate water usage readings — even in low-flow conditions such as water-saving shower heads and low-flush toilets.

District leaders say the new meters are designed to help improve billing accuracy for customers while helping keep long-term system costs low.

Customers may notice brief water service interruptions during installation, typically lasting about 5 to 15 minutes. Officials say no boil water advisories are expected as part of the installation process.

Installers are expected to arrive at homes and notify customers before replacing meters. Crews will be wearing high-visibility safety clothing and using marked vehicles during the project.

The first phase will replace about 2,000 of the district’s 6,500 meters and is expected to take about three months to complete.

District officials say future phases of meter replacement will depend on additional funding as they work to replace the remaining meters across the system.
