Details of the Attack

Jusmitawati was collecting shellfish with friends in the estuary of the Luan Boya River, a common area for the practice known as “lokan” – collecting clams for consumption or sale. She became separated from her group and ventured into deeper water when she was attacked by the crocodile. Her friends immediately raised the alarm after she failed to respond to their calls.

Horrifying Footage Emerges

Video footage of the attack quickly went viral, showing a nearly 6-meter (19-foot) long crocodile surfacing with Jusmitawati’s body in its jaws. Locals gathered at the riverbank, attempting to force the crocodile to release the victim by shooting at it and striking it with sticks and ropes. Recovery and Aftermath
