Milan Prosecutor Investigates Data Privacy Concerns Involving Consultant Gian Gaetano Bellavia

Milan, February 19, 2026 – An investigation is underway by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office regarding potential violations of privacy law involving Gian Gaetano Bellavia, a commercialist and consultant to prosecutors and judges. The investigation centers around allegations of improper handling and disclosure of personal data, stemming from the theft of an archive containing over one million files.

Background of the Case

The controversy began with the alleged theft of the digital archive by Valentina Varisco, Bellavia’s former collaborator, who is currently on trial. This archive reportedly included a document, dubbed the “papello,” containing the names of entrepreneurs, politicians, and public figures.

Bellavia’s Defense

Gian Gaetano Bellavia, through his lawyer Luca Ricci, has firmly rejected accusations of unlawful data processing and information disclosure. According to a statement released on February 19, 2026, the files on Bellavia’s firm’s computer were illicitly copied by Varisco. The defense argues that the computer contained technical consultancy reports based on attachments kept in the firm’s historical archive as part of its professional perform.

Ricci emphasized that there was no improper processing of personal data and that the documents in question were part of the firm’s historical archive. Bellavia, during questioning by prosecutors Eugenio Fusco and Paola Biondolillo, provided a detailed account of the events and asserted the correctness of his actions.

No Evidence of “Dossier” or “Espionage”

Bellavia maintains that no “dossier” or “espionage activity” is linked to the documents within the archive. His defense claims the files represent “normal archives of professional activity” and “intellectual property” that were violated when copied and removed by Varisco. The defense further states that data processing for purposes unrelated to professional or consultancy roles is not within the scope of the case and that no disclosure occurred.

Security Measures in Place

The firm had security measures in place to prevent unauthorized access, both from external sources and within the office. However, the defense argues that Varisco, who had authority over the IT systems, engaged in “illicit and unfaithful conduct.”

Ongoing Investigation

The Milan Prosecutor’s Office continues its investigation into the matter, examining the circumstances surrounding the theft of the archive and the handling of sensitive data.
