Increased Police Presence, CCTV Installations Follow Break-Ins in Upper Thomson Estate

Singapore – Police are increasing their presence and installing more CCTV cameras in the Upper Thomson area following a series of break-ins and a report of a suspicious person, according to Member of Parliament (MP) for Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, Chee Hong Tat. The measures aim to reassure residents and deter further incidents.

Recent Break-Ins

The police have been investigating two separate break-in attempts reported last week. On February 17, police responded to a call regarding a residential estate along Taman Permata. Investigations revealed an individual allegedly entered a residence without permission but left before officers arrived. A second incident occurred on February 21 at a home along Marigold Drive, with a similar outcome – an individual entered the premises and departed before police arrival.

Investigations into both cases are ongoing, and authorities are working to identify the suspects.

Suspicious Person Sighting

On Tuesday, February 24, police received a report of a suspicious person sighted near Soo Chow View at approximately 2:00 PM. The individual left the area before police arrived, and authorities are currently working to establish their identity. A visible police presence was observed in the estate throughout the day, with officers seen entering and exiting a unit on Soo Chow View.

Community Response and Police Action

Mr. Chee Hong Tat thanked the Singapore Police Force (SPF) for increasing their patrols and considering the installation of more CCTV cameras, including in forested areas behind the houses. He also noted that residents have proactively formed community watch groups to enhance awareness and vigilance.

“We have requested SPF to install more CCTVs and increase their patrols and drone surveillance, including for the forested areas behind the houses,” Mr. Chee stated, as reported by The Straits Times.

Public Advisory

The police are urging members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. Individuals with information related to these incidents are encouraged to contact the police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit information online. All information received will be kept confidential. The police advise calling “999” immediately if anyone observes suspicious behavior in their neighborhood.

Chee Hong Tat’s Role

Chee Hong Tat currently serves as the Minister for National Development and is the Member of Parliament for the Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC, representing the area affected by these incidents. He also holds positions as Deputy Chairman of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Board of Directors, Chairman of the Chinese Community Liaison Group, and an Adviser to the Board of Directors of Business China, according to the Prime Minister’s Office Singapore.
