Siri Activation During Trump’s 2026 State of the Union Address

During President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on February 24, 2026, numerous iPhone users reported unexpected activations of Siri, Apple’s voice assistant. The trigger appears to have occurred during the President’s recounting of the story of Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover and his bravery during a raid in Venezuela.

The Incident Explained

The issue stemmed from the way Siri processes voice commands. Previously requiring the “Hey Siri” wake word, the voice assistant now responds to simply “Siri.” Users noted that phrases within President Trump’s narrative, specifically the words “searing” or “serious,” closely resembled the activation command, leading to unintended Siri initiations. Some users on social media platforms like X (formerly Twitter) and Bluesky suggested the trigger may have been a portion of the phrase “…was hit very…”

Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover’s Story

The Siri activations coincided with President Trump’s detailed account of Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover’s actions during the raid to capture Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. Slover, a U.S. Army helicopter pilot, was wounded in the leg and hip by enemy fire while preparing to land his MH-47 Chinook helicopter. Despite sustaining serious injuries – including being hit by four shots – Slover continued the mission, successfully inserting the assault team.

President Trump awarded Slover the Congressional Medal of Honor during the address, praising his courage and dedication. The New York Post and Times Now News both reported on the award and Slover’s bravery. [New York Post] [Times Now News]

Siri’s Response and Future Updates

Following the Siri activations, some users reported the voice assistant initiated Google searches related to gunshot wounds. Apple is expected to release an update to Siri next month to address this issue and refine its voice command recognition. [Gizmodo]
