Apple Faces Scrutiny Over Siri AI Claims and App Store Practices

Apple is currently navigating legal challenges on two fronts: a proposed class action lawsuit alleging overstated progress in artificial intelligence for its Siri voice assistant, and ongoing repercussions from the 2021 Epic Games v. Apple antitrust case. These developments come as Apple’s stock experienced fluctuations in 2025, mirroring trends among major tech companies.

Shareholder Lawsuit Alleges Misleading AI Claims

A class action lawsuit filed against Apple claims the company misled shareholders regarding the development and implementation of AI features within Siri. Plaintiffs allege Apple misrepresented its ability to comply with a 2021 injunction stemming from the Epic Games legal battle [Reuters]. Apple has moved to dismiss the lawsuit, arguing it provided no guarantees regarding the timeline for AI feature integration or full compliance with the injunction.

Epic Games Antitrust Case Continues to Impact Apple

The legal saga with Epic Games, initiated in August 2020, centers on Apple’s App Store policies and commission rates. In April 2025, a judge ruled that Apple deliberately disregarded a 2021 order requiring the company to allow developers to direct consumers to alternative payment options outside the App Store [Reddit/technews].

Apple appealed the ruling, but the appeals court upheld the decision in December 2025. The court also indicated it would consider whether Apple can continue to collect a commission on transactions occurring outside the App Store, though not at the previous 27% rate [Wikipedia].

Siri’s AI Development Faces Delays

Apple’s ambitious plans to overhaul Siri with advanced AI capabilities have encountered significant delays. As of February 11, 2026, the launch of several new Siri features has been postponed. Some features initially expected in iOS 26.4 (March 2026) are now slated for release in iOS 26.5 (May 2026) and iOS 27 (September 2026) [Reuters]. These delays follow reports of internal glitches and the departure of senior personnel involved in the project.

Other Legal Challenges

Apple is also addressing a separate racketeering lawsuit filed by digital payments provider Fintiv, for which the company sought dismissal in October 2025.

“It is no secret that Apple faces challenges and weathered ups and downs in its stock price in 2025, like many major companies,” the firm stated in response to the shareholder lawsuit [Reuters]. “But plaintiff takes a massive and unsupported leap by claiming that securities fraud caused the temporary price drops.”
