Kaley Cuoco Reflects on ‘Charmed’ Experience, Icy Interaction with Rose McGowan

Kaley Cuoco recently shared her experience joining the cast of Charmed during its eighth and final season in 2005, describing the situation as “terrifying” and “dicey” and revealing a less-than-warm reception from one co-star.

Joining a Close-Knit Set

During an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shepard and Monica Padman, Cuoco recounted feeling overwhelmed as the “new girl” arriving for a cast photoshoot. “Imagine this: I’ve never met anyone. It’s their gallery shoot,” she explained, referring to a full day of cast photos. “I’m the new girl. You’ve got Alyssa Milano, Rose McGowan and Holly Marie Combs. I’ve never met them. Think about that. I’m joining their family photo, and I’m 21.”

Cuoco described feeling both nervous and confident, stating, “I walk in that gallery, and I am so freaking nervous…I’m thinking I’m the coolest thing ever, but similarly terrified.”

A Warm Welcome from Alyssa Milano

The actress highlighted the kindness of Alyssa Milano, who immediately made her feel welcome. “Alyssa Milano sees me, and—I will always notify this story about her—she got up, ran over to me, and welcomed me to the show,” Cuoco recalled. “I will always tell this story about her…she gave me the biggest hug in the world, so happy, so kind. I will never forget that.”

A Frosty Reception from Rose McGowan

In contrast, Cuoco’s initial interaction with Rose McGowan was markedly different. “Rose [was] maybe not as happy. I don’t know,” she said. “I still don’t know if she likes me. I don’t know.”

Cuoco emphasized the awkwardness of joining an established show in its final season. “It’s a weird thing coming into a show with them in year eight, and I only did the one season.”

Impact on ‘The Big Bang Theory’

The experience on Charmed had a lasting impact on Cuoco, shaping her approach to welcoming newcomers during her 12-year run on The Big Bang Theory. “I think about that with Big Bang…We were on that show for 12 years. So anyone that came in, I was very aware of, like, ‘This must be so weird for you.’ I always remembered that from Alyssa.”

Reflecting on an “Intense and Difficult” Experience

In a recent conversation with The Independent, Cuoco described her time on Charmed as “intense and difficult.” She acknowledged that joining the show caused “a few more waves than I imagined.” She added, “There were a few people on that show that were wonderful to me, and there were a few people that weren’t. I remember them both very clearly.”

Cuoco stated that she has been fortunate to have mostly positive experiences on set throughout her career and that the experience reinforced her commitment to making newcomers feel included. “I will always make sure every single person feels like they’re part of the group,” she said. “There’s nothing worse than feeling outside of it.”
