Czech Mobile Operators Provide Free Data to Customers in the Middle East Amidst Regional Crisis

Czech mobile operators O2 Czech Republic and T-Mobile Czech Republic are offering free mobile data packages to their Czech customers currently located in several Middle Eastern countries, responding to the escalating security concerns in the region. This move aims to aid citizens stay connected with family and friends during a period of disrupted telecommunications and heightened tensions.

Free Data Packages Details

O2 Czech Republic is providing five gigabytes of free data, while T-Mobile Czech Republic is offering ten gigabytes. Both packages are valid for 30 days. Customers eligible for the free data will be notified via SMS message as reported by Radio Prague and Telecompaper.

Affected Countries

T-Mobile’s offer extends to customers in Iran, Israel, Bahrain, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Jordan, and Oman.

Customer Impact and Usage

As of March 1, 2026, T-Mobile reported approximately 2,400 customers in the Middle East, a decrease of 1,400 since the beginning of the conflict. Data consumption in the affected areas has reportedly tripled. O2 has seen a customer decrease of around 36 percent in the region. Vodafone has experienced a 25% drop in customers, activating packages for 72% of its users.

Government Assistance and Evacuation Efforts

The Czech government is also assisting citizens in the Middle East, offering evacuation flights from the region. But, these flights are not free, with tickets priced at 15,000 CZK. Flights have already transported citizens from Amman, Muscat, and Israel (via Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt) back to Prague.

Background

The operators’ actions follow recent Israeli and U.S. Strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliatory measures, leading to disruptions in air travel and telecommunications across the Middle East. Thousands of Czech citizens were registered in the region through the Drozd travel system when the crisis began.
