‘Show Me the Money 12’ and ‘The World of Yasha’ Expand Hip-Hop Competition’s Universe

Mnet’s long-running hip-hop survival program, Show Me the Money, returned for its twelfth season in January 2026, alongside a spin-off series, Show Me the Money 12: The World of Yasha. The dual approach represents a “bold” attempt to revitalize the series and cater to evolving audience tastes, according to CP Choi, the show’s chief producer since Season 4.

A Familiar Format with New Twists

Show Me the Money 12 premiered on January 15, 2026, airing Thursdays at 23:00 (KST) on Mnet. The season features four producer teams: Zico & Crush, Gray & Loco, J-Tong & Hukky Shibaseki, and Jay Park & Lil Moshpit. The spin-off, The World of Yasha, began airing Saturdays on TVING, starting January 17, 2026.

‘The World of Yasha’: A Second Chance for Contestants

The World of Yasha offers a unique parallel narrative to the main competition. It features contestants eliminated from the first, second, and third rounds of Show Me the Money 12, giving them a second chance to compete for revival. The spin-off provides a platform for greater creative freedom, with fewer restrictions on lyrics and content, increasing fan satisfaction and generating interest in the main show.

Three contestants – Mason Home, YLN Foreign, and Nowimyoung – were revived into the main show beginning with the fourth round after competing in The World of Yasha.

Expanding the Hip-Hop Landscape

CP Choi noted a shift in the atmosphere of the participants, with many embracing hip-hop culture and enjoying the competition. This reflects a growing familiarity with the genre in South Korea. The inclusion of global preliminary rounds also aimed to add “freshness” and “diversity” to the series, despite potential challenges related to language barriers. Although concerns existed about the limitations of foreign rappers due to lyrical content, the producers found that artists effectively conveyed their messages through stage presence and overall performance.
