Western Cape 2027 School Admissions Now Open: A Guide for Parents

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has officially opened applications for Grade R, Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners for the 2027 school year. The application period began on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and will remain open until Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Parents and caregivers are urged to apply within this timeframe to maximize their child’s chances of securing a place at a school of their choice.

  • Application Period: March 10, 2026 – April 14, 2026
  • Confirmation of Placements: May 28 – June 15, 2026

Required Documents

To complete the online application, parents and caregivers must upload the following certified documents:

  • The learner’s most recent official school report (if applicable)
  • Certified proof of the learner’s identity:
    • Identity document (ID)
    • Birth certificate
    • Passport
  • For foreign learners: a passport, a study permit, proof of application for a permit, or a copy of the parents’ asylum seeker or refugee permit. If none of the above is available, a South African Police Service affidavit will be accepted.
  • Immunisation card / Road to Health chart (required for pre-primary and primary schools)
  • Proof of residence (e.g., municipal account, lease agreement, or affidavit confirming residence)

Support for Applicants

The WCED will host pop-up admission sites across the province during the application period to assist parents who require help with the online application process or lack internet access. For admission inquiries or assistance with password resets, parents can contact the WCED Admissions Call Centre at 0861 819 919. The call centre operates from 07h30 to 16h00. A walk-in centre is similarly available at the WCED Head Office during the same hours.

Late Applications

Late applications for Grades R, 1, and 8 can be submitted through district offices or directly at schools.
