Man Faces Six Years in Jail Over Alleged Secret Filming at Palma de Mallorca Airport
A 41-year-aged man is facing up to six years in prison after being accused of secretly filming women, including a British teenager, in the toilets at Palma de Mallorca Airport. Spanish prosecutors allege the incidents occurred in July 2023 and July 2024.
Details of the Allegations
Prosecutors claim the accused gained access to the women’s toilet at the airport and entered a cubicle next to a 17-year-old British tourist. He allegedly positioned a mobile phone to capture images of the teenager while she was changing her underwear. The British tourist has been summoned to provide evidence during the trial.
In a separate incident, the same man is accused of hiding a mobile phone behind a waste bin in the airport arrivals area bathroom and filming another woman using the toilet. Authorities have found no evidence suggesting the suspect shared the recorded images with anyone.
Potential Sentencing and Compensation
Prosecutors are seeking a two-and-a-half-year prison sentence for the privacy violation related to the older woman, allegedly committed on July 2, 2023. For the incident involving the British minor on July 7, 2024, they are requesting a four-year jail sentence if convicted. The suspect also faces a potential compensation demand of around £5,000.
Investigation and Current Status
The circumstances surrounding the man’s arrest remain unclear. He was initially released on bail after a night in police custody while the criminal investigation proceeded, ultimately leading to the charges being filed. A trial date has not yet been set.
