Putri Kusuma Wardani Reaches Swiss Open Final, Eyes Championship Title
Basel, Switzerland – Indonesian badminton star Putri Kusuma Wardani advanced to the final of the 2026 Swiss Open on Saturday, March 14th, defeating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara in a commanding performance at St. Jakobshalle Basel. The top-seeded 23-year-classic won the semifinal match with a score of 21-16, 21-13 .
Dominant Performance Against Okuhara
The match saw Putri Kusuma Wardani strategically adapt to Okuhara’s defensive play. After a close start to the first game at 4-4, Putri launched an eight-point run, establishing a significant lead of 12-4. Recognizing Okuhara’s tendency to wait for attacking opportunities, Putri shifted to a safer playing style after the interval. “If I attacked, it would be tough, so after the interval, I tried to play safer. Playing long rallies made her kill herself,” Putri explained to the Indonesian Badminton Association (PBSI) .
First Final of the Year
This marks Putri KW’s first final appearance of the year, and she expressed her determination to secure the championship title. “I have to stay focused and consistent, no matter who my opponent is. I aim for to prove that I still deserve to be champion,” she emphasized .

Putri will face the winner of the match between Lin Shiang Ti (Chinese Taipei) and Supanida Kathetong (Thailand) in the final. Indonesia also has strong representation in other categories, with Anthony Ginting competing in the men’s singles against Yushi Tanaka (Japan), and the mixed doubles pair of Amri Syahnawi and Nita Violina Marwah facing Cheng Xing and Zhang Jie (China) .
