Petrohan Case: Investigation Reveals Murders and Suicide, Weapons Legally Owned

Investigations into the deaths of three individuals found in an off-road camper near Petrohan, Bulgaria, suggest a sequence of two murders followed by a suicide. The case, which began on February 8, 2026, has involved extensive forensic analysis, including examinations of weapons, mobile phones, and a laptop recovered from the scene.

Timeline of Events and Findings

Around 4:20 p.m. On March 12, 2026, security personnel at the Petrohan hut noticed smoke emanating from the building. Authorities, including the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, investigators from the DG “National Police,” the district prosecutor, and the fire department, were immediately notified. The fire department determined the smoke originated from wet pellets stored in a room, and foam was used as a precautionary measure to prevent ignition. The area remains under 24-hour security.

Forensic Evidence and Autopsy Results

Autopsies indicate the likely sequence of events involved two consecutive murders and one suicide. Investigators discovered three shell casings and three projectiles, all linked to a Colt revolver. A Glock pistol was likewise found within the camper. Forensic examinations of the weapons are ongoing at the National Institute of Forensic Science.

Weapon Ownership

According to data from the General Directorate “National Police” – Ministry of Internal Affairs, the weapons found at the scene were legally owned. Ivaylo K. Possessed a permit issued on November 1, 2021, for two combat pistols. Permits were issued to Ivaylo I. On August 23, 2021, for 16 firearms, and to Nikolay Z. On February 24, 2023, for one combat pistol. Archy Newsy reports that the investigation continues.

Additional Evidence

Besides the firearms, investigators also found materials with religious themes and literature of a sexual nature within the camper, including written notes referencing “spiritual purification and elevation through sexual practices.” A forensic psychological examination, to be prepared by the Institute of Psychology of the Ministry of the Interior, has been requested to further analyze the evidence.

Ongoing Investigation

The crime scene in the Petrohan area remains active as investigators continue their function. Examinations of four mobile phones and a laptop recovered from the camper are also underway. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
