Norway Establishes Committee to Chart Final Phase of Oil Operations

The Norwegian government has formed a restructuring committee tasked with developing a strategy for the final phase of Norway’s oil operations, signaling a potential turning point in the nation’s energy policy. The committee’s formation follows an agreement reached during budget negotiations last autumn, securing the support of the Green Party (MDG).

Committee Members and Leadership

The commission will be chaired by Erlend Grimstad, a former state secretary for the Centre Party (SP). Key members include Lan Marie Berg, former deputy chairman of the Green Party (MDG), and Kari Elisabeth Kaski, a long-time central figure in the Socialist Left Party (SV), previously serving as their fiscal policy spokesperson.

Ingrid Liland, MDG’s fiscal policy spokesperson, stated that the committee’s operate represents “starting to write the last chapter in Norwegian oil history” when the agreement was announced on December 3, 2023.

Kari Elisabeth Kaski of the Socialist Left Party (SV) previously participated in an Oslo conference alongside Inger Helen Vaaten (AP), Mari Eifring (Rødt), and Sigbjørn Gjelsvik (SP).

Kaski also previously appealed in operation with large energy companies.
