Sedrun, Switzerland – A 47-year-old woman died and two 13-year-old girls were seriously injured on Friday when an 87-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle and drove into a group of schoolchildren and accompanying adults in Sedrun, Graubünden canton, Switzerland. The driver was unharmed in the incident.

What Happened?

Shortly before 10 a.m. Local time, the 87-year-old driver reportedly confused the accelerator and brake pedals on a local road, causing his car to accelerate and collide with the school camp group. The Graubünden cantonal police confirmed the details on Saturday following an inquiry from Keystone-SDA.

Casualties and Medical Response

The 47-year-old woman, a leader accompanying the school camp, died at the scene. Two 13-year-old girls sustained serious to moderate injuries and were airlifted by two Rega crews to hospitals in Chur and Lucerne for treatment. A boy also suffered minor injuries and received outpatient care.

Investigation and Support

The cantonal police, under the direction of the Graubünden public prosecutor’s office, are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. The Care Team Grischun was deployed to provide support to the traumatized members of the group who were not physically injured. The Sursassiala fire department also responded to the scene.
